Communique from the Inaugural AMCYM Conference held in Johannesburg from 18th to 22nd March 2026

Preamble

The delegates of the Inaugural Africa Methodist Council Youth Movement (AMCYM)

Conference gathered at the eMseni Conference Centre in, Johannesburg, South Africa,

held from 18th to 22nd March 2026, under the theme: Youthquake in Africa: Driving

Transformation and Change.

The conference had the following objectives:

i) To gather Methodist youth across Africa for fellowship, unity, and shared

engagement.

ii) To conduct elections for the establishment of substantive leadership.

iii) To strengthen collaboration and networking among youth from different

member countries.

iv) To provide a platform for youth to participate in shaping the vision and

direction of the youth movement.

v) To lay a solid foundation for structured growth and sustainability of the

movement.

After extensive deliberations, we resolve:

1. That we advocate for faithful interpretation and application of scripture in an

approach that is more inclusive, liberating, transformative and life - giving.

Wesley Quadrilateral should be our framework in our interpretation and

application of our prophetic messages

2. That the churches in Africa, in their mission, seek to dismantle all systems that

are entrenching patriarchal violence in our systems in all spheres of society

(Values and Practices)

3. That there be continual, Intentional Public Advocacy and Capacitation of

Gender justice issues, especially on gender equity issues, both in the Church

and Society4. That there be a deliberate move to train the youth on the positives of

solar energy, roll out the use of solar energy in the churches, as well as

empower young people through education on the installation of solar

energy.

5. That we seek to improve on water management, through the

development of bible study material for water conservation, and

teachings on preservative habits such as the collection of rainwater in

reservoirs at churches and schools

6. That the church in its teachings seeks ways to support sustainable

agriculture, with emphasis on agroforestry as well as mainstream

ecotheology in preaching and bible study.

7. That we launch a go green movement for the preservation of nature in

Africa.

8. That the Youth and the church proactively adopt technology rather than

resist it. This includes integrating digital tools into ministry,

communication, and learning environments

9. That the church and the youth body deliberately train individuals on how

to use essential technological tools such as search platforms (e.g., Google),

bible applications, Microsoft Office, digital study tools, and emerging

technologies and trends. This will help with the effective and meaningful

usage of technology.

10. That we create awareness on the effective and efficient use of IT.

Awareness of technology should include:

 Online safety and privacy

 Managing distractions and digital discipline

 Understanding both the benefits and risks of technology

 This equips both young people and adults to use technology

responsibly and not limit their use to social media.

11. That technology should be utilized as a strategic tool for improving church

operations and decision-making.Key applications include:

 Conducting research and data collection to inform planning and programs

 Using digital tools for voting and feedback collection

 Implementing systems for monitoring attendance and participation

 Enhancing communication and coordination within the church

12. That the church should actively participate in discussions and decisions that

shape governance of IT in the country. This should be done proactively and not

reactively. This ensures that ethical and moral factors are included in IT

governance frameworks.

13. That the church ensures that technology adoption is inclusive and accessible

to all members, including those who are persons with disabilities (PWDs) and

the elderly.

Practical steps include:

 Identifying and implementing assistive technologies for the visually

impaired (e.g., screen readers, audio Bibles), the hearing impaired (e.g.,

captions, sign language interpretation where possible).

 Providing Bible audio resources in local languages for ease of

understanding

 Supporting elderly members with tools that enhance visibility and

usability

 Creating an inclusive environment where everyone can fully participate in

church activities.

14. That the church must recognize individuals with technological skills and

bring them together to develop innovative solutions, create platforms that

promote and strengthen the Christian faith, and support the ministry through

digital advancement.

Talents within the church can develop AI tools that support true Christian faith

and doctrines.14. . That as the church embraces technology in managing members’ data,

sharing the gospel and administration of the church, it is important to

take note of the data protection of its members. There are relevant data

protection laws across countries in Africa. The church is encouraged to

ensure compliance with relevant laws regarding the protection of

members' data.

15. That the church considers investing in technology tools, including

software, hardware, operating systems and Data storage systems.

The church must invest in technology tools to ensure safe and effective use of

technology.

Some of these investments may include the purchase of relevant hardware, such

as servers, computers, and cameras. Investment in software may include the

purchase and installation of current applications and antivirus software.

Adequate investment may protect the church against cyber threats.

AMC can champion some of these discussions as it works on seeking the general

interest of the Wesleyan family on the continent.

17. The church should have relevant back-ups to support technology usage.

There should not be overreliance on technology, as it may sometimes fail us.

A quake leaves visible marks on the landscape. It is our prayer and desire that this

youthquake will bring about transformations across Africa. All forms of sin and

oppression will experience the power of the quake from the highest offices to the

villages. The youth will not only speak but act to continue the work of Christ in us

and through us.

We reaffirm our commitment to the vision and mission of AMCYM and dedicate

ourselves to serving God and the youth of Africa with renewed passion and unity so

that the quake becomes a reality in Africa.
